Greening the city with insect-friendly plants

They fight pests, pollinate wild and cultivated plants and contribute to a healthy environment and biodiversity: Without insects, life would probably not be possible on earth. However, due to many factors such as the loss of natural habitats, they are finding it increasingly difficult to find food and places to retreat. Cities in particular often lack green spaces and plants that offer them protection. The Flower and Shower company is committed to changing this and also increasing the quality of stay for visitors. Topics that are at the top of the agenda in many municipalities when it comes to inner city development.

“Structural change and digitalization do not stop at the city centers,” says Bert de Kruijk, managing director of Flower and Shower. Online shopping in particular is causing less footfall in pedestrian zones. “Many cities and municipalities have already recognized that they at least have to improve the general conditions in order to attract visitors back to their city center. Above all, this includes increasing the quality of stay,” says de Kruijk. This particularly includes creating green oases and quiet seating areas. Pop-up parks are also trendy. But things can also be a little smaller, says de Kruijk: “With our planters we can add greenery to lanterns, bridge railings or bare paved areas in no time. We also ensure that the plants bloom for a very long time, and the same applies to the abundance of flowers in order to develop an enormous display of flowers.”

Circular economy

The company has also addressed the issue of real sustainability written on the flag. For example with the Circular Flower Pot, which is made entirely of recycled materials and is therefore 100 percent recyclable. With the planting, the flower pot becomes almost 1.40 meters high and wide. The “Circular” in the name of the new product says it all: Flower and Shower manages to round off the recycling cycle by recycling old flower pots and adding grass fibers and mowing waste. Since it immediately catches the eye due to its size, the oversized flower pot is also particularly suitable for celebrations and city anniversaries.
